Our 11th five-a-side tournament took place at Goals Birmingham on Thursday 27th April with our biggest turn out to date - over 200 players took part with teams from TT Group, LIH and ArchCo, as well as 15 external guest teams. It was great to introduce four new external teams to the tournament – Hollis, Farebrother, Carter Jonas and Barratts / David Wilson and catch up with familiar faces from Cooke & Arkwright, CBRE, Reed Smith, BT, Allsopp, Harris Lamb, LocatED, Eversheds, Rapleys, Bray Fox Smith and Turleys.
The Plate Final was an all ArchCo event with ArchCo Asset Transactions 2 narrowly beating ArchCo Lettings 2:1.
In the main Cup Final, the 2021 winners, Reed Smith contested a tough final with Bray Fox Smith, but it was Bray Fox Smith that triumphed with a penalty shoot-out following a goalless score at full time.
The Lewis Keogh Trophy for best female player of the tournament was awarded to Taylor of Eversheds, and the best male player trophy was awarded to Massimo of Bray Fox Smith.
The guest speaker this year was one of Arsenal’s Invincibles, the “Romford Pele” (Ray Parlour), who presented the medals and trophies and then took part in a very entertaining Q&A session where he told many funny tales from his playing career. Ray even kindly gave us a mention on his breakfast chat with Alan Brazil on Talk Sport the following morning, saying, “I had a great day with the old TT lot in Birmingham yesterday, a really well organised event”.
Big thanks to Mark Kelly and Janice Woodman for the organisation of the fantastic event, and a special mention to our last-minute official photographer for the day, Holly Smith.
