Music in Liverpool

The city of Liverpool is renowned worldwide for its music, in particular the popular rock 'n' roll band The Beatles, and they are still a massive attraction for visitors today. The city of Liverpool is full of great architecture and in recent years has been rejuvenated and boasts many impressive sightings and a stunning refurbished waterfront.In 2004 several areas throughout Liverpool city centre were granted World Heritage Site status by UNESCO. In 2007 the city celebrated its 800th anniversary, and in 2008 Liverpool held the European Capital of Culture title. There is the Walker Art Gallery with regular temporary exhibitions and spectacular fine and decorative art collections, Tate Liverpool with an impressive permanent collection, retrospective shows and special exhibitions by the world's most famous living artists, and the oldest Grade 1 listed building in Liverpool's city centre - The Bluecoat, where creative displays such as visual art, music, literature, dance and live art are featured.

Museums in Liverpool include the World Museum Liverpool with its thousands of fascinating exhibits, Merseyside Maritime Museum, which is great for families, a ship-shaped museum in the Albert Dock, with four floors of fascinating galleries exploring the city's maritime legacy, a slavery museum and the Western Approaches Museum - World War II Top Secret Underground Headquarters an intricate labyrinth of rooms, once a top-secret nerve centre in 1940s wartime Britain.

Shopping in Liverpool

Liverpool has some of the best shopping in Europe; with a mix of high street shops, boutiques and independent retailers, Liverpool is the capital of shopping.

St John's Shopping Centre is situated in the heart of Liverpool City Centre next to St Johns Beacon and is Liverpool's largest covered shopping centre offering 100 shops on two levels. Liverpool One is a brand new shopping complex also in the city centre and is the size of 28 football pitches, bringing the best in fashion, home and leisure to the Liverpool with its 160 shops.

Cavern Walks is Liverpool's independents epicentre, situated on the famous Mathew Street, it is the place to come for something special. There is even a famous statue of The Beatles in Cavern Walks. The metquarter is one of Liverpool's newest and most stylish shopping centres, home to many large designer stores including Diesel, Firetrap, Miss Sixty, Molton Brown and Timberland.

Football Clubs in Liverpool

Liverpool is home to two football clubs who play in the top-flight of English football - the Premier League - Liverpool F.C. and Everton. Liverpool is the most successful English football team ever and play their home matches at Anfield.

Everton are the older of Liverpool's two professional football clubs, formed in 1878, and play their home matches at Goodison Park. A stadium tour around both grounds is a fascinating experience, or even better watch a hotly contested derby match between Liverpool's two football teams if you are lucky enough to get tickets.
