Hotel Features. Originally two Georgian townhouses, The Minto Hotel has been sensitively refurbished to retain many original period features and overlooks beautifully maintained gardens. There are 22 rooms on two floors featuring modern furniture, decor in warm tones and crisp, white cotton bedding. All rooms have flatscreen televisions and coffee and tea making facilities. Expert Tip. Newington started life as an Edinburgh suburb built to house the burgeoning nouveaux riche of the early 1800s. There are lots of Georgian townhouses that were originally home to lawyers, bankers and merchants, but it's now a lively, student area with lots of pubs and restaurants. Places worth a visit include the Jewish Cemetery at Sciennes House Place.
