"A lovely night on a lovely site on the banks of loch lomond"

Sallochy is a perfect balance between wild camping and using a commercial site. In a fantastic location, with just composting toilet and cold running water it offers essential facilities but no more. It is good value and the Rangers are helpful and friendly. We brought 7 people (using 3 tents) from a local charity, none of whom had been to LL before: they LOVED it.

Had a wonderful couple of days at Sallochy. Booked a loch side pitch, arrived around 2pm and got set up no bother. Checked in with the ranger when they arrived and hired fire pit (£5) and wood (£5) for the night. Quiet site, all walkers and a couple of families. Very reasonable price - no shower block but that's reflected in the price and as close to wild camping as you can get while still having the luxury of a toilet and running water. Kids spent the weekend by the water, throwing stones, playing catch and feeding the robins and ducks. We also walked a bit of the West Highland Way towards Rowardennan.. Loved this place and will definately be back

I had booked a loch side pitch, and loved it. Some of the loch side pitches are a bit removed from the main campsite and the toilets, but waking up to the view of Loch Lomond is priceless. The toilets were clean. Well kept place and friendly welcome to the campsite.

The campsite is great. lochside location. good beach. pitches can be a bit boggy, facilities adequate. It can get overwhelmed with day visitors on good days, but camping there means you've already got a good spot. To book you have to go through a 3rd party website, which made the experience a bit unusual. it worked though. It would be nice if you could book direct. the review asks to rate 'rooms' and 'service' which are totally irrelevant.

Yes, it's a low equipped campsite with compost toilets ans no showers - but the view definitely makes up for it!! I online booked a lochside pitch in advance and had a great stay. The service personal was super helpful and friendly. Great accommodation possibility if you're on the WHW (which is going right through).

Booking in advance is adviced. There are 10 lochside pitches, some for 1 tent, some hand room for 2-3 tents. This was the most beautiful location I pitched my tent during my WHW hike. Plan your trip so that you have time to enjoy the rest of the day by your tent right next to the water. 10/10 would recommend! Oh but there are no showers or a cooking room, just so you know. Plan accordingly and you will be fine.

Pretty nice located campsite on shore of Loch Lomond. But when hiking the WHW, I arrived pretty early without a prebooking. It is pretty annoying that you'll have to wait until 16:30 for the camp warden to find out if it's possible to camp here, because it says it's only 20 pitches. If you are hiking in a camping managed area, than you don't want to wait for this, because you want to move on if necessary.

Absolutely beautiful Loch-side camping. Basic facilities but all that is needed for wild camping ~ toilets, washing-up area and drinking water. Went for a swim in the Loch - freezing but worth it! The pitches were lovely ~ all different but all with lovely views over the Loch. The warden was friendly and helpful on arrival.

Even at £7 a night per person this site felt over priced. The toiliets were composting which i fully support in such a remote area but previous experiences of these you put saw dust or something over waste to dampen the smell and help the process, the toilets were basically an open cesspit you could look straight down and see waste. There are no sinks to wash your hands, hand sanitise is provided, which research shows after 3 uses becomes ineffective and hand washing should take place. Many people were using the wash station to wash their hands which is a big hygiene concern in my opinion. There is running water in the wash station. This is only cold water and is right next to the toilets so you can smell excrements when you use this station. Two sinks and one tap for the whole site and people were pot washing, filling bottles, brushing teeth through to washing hands after the loo all at one tap. The view of the loch is fantastic and the water is crystal clear; however being next to water on a nice day meant the midges were a problem. Nothing a good dosing of bug spray doesn't resolve but are something to be aware of. Over all a pleasant stay lots of walkers and multicultural space which created a nice couple of days. We were luck to be in a good sized tent and have a car so we could get in a warm dry space when it was hammering it down as there is no covered areas on the site, other then the loos which is a shed. We did feel for a few who had tiny tents who were drenched from a days walking with nowhere they could shelter to warm up. We went to a camp site more inland for the next two nights and for a few £ more got hot showers and the works.

Really good for 2 nights. I stayed at the central pitch. Enough space between the tents. The loch side pitches are quite a bit apart. Composting toilets work well. Unfortunately the bins were totally full. Don't forget to prepare for the midges.
