The service was very good but the room was more like a single room than a double, it was ok as we stayed just one night but if we had been staying longer i would not have been happy. As the saying goes there was no room to swing a cat, there was not much space to put clothes etc away if you were staying more than one night. Breakfast was continental but this was not stated on the website or when we arrived so we were unaware what type of breakfast we were to have. The place and room was very tidy and clean and it was comfortable enough for one night so it was an average stay.

An adequate hotel for the person looking for a cheap night in London. There is no luxury, furniture is utilitarian, carpets are stained, lights with 2 pin plugs that don't fit in the 3 pin sockets and hadn't been PAT tested but a good shower and adequate breakfast. Nice helpful people and a chef who knew how to cook okra.

I've stayed here before & it's a fairly decent all rounder. Nice place, Clean, Good location & transport links, nice friendly staff & great value for London. Only issue I have is plumbing (which was same problem over 2 years ago!). I know it's 'budget' but its a shame having an en-suite with a shower that you cant use as thermostat has broken (i.e. ICE COLD or BOILING!) & also blocked up again! I don't imagine its too big a job to fix & would have taken this review from 'average' 3 star to five! Nonetheless I'll still stay here again as it's such good value.

I booked Tommy Miah's for convenience and price. It ticked the boxes on both fronts!! It's a convenient location, the staff are all very helpful, polite and good humoured. My room was large enough and the bathroom suite was fairly modern. The continental breakfast was fine and i was suprised at how busy breakfast was. This is obviously a popular choise of Hotel. My brother & I will be staying again in May

I stayed at Tommy Miahs for one night as I simply needed a cheap place to sleep for the night whilst visiting friends. It wasn't luxury, it wasn't flashy and it wasn't the best hotel I have ever stayed in. BUT, it was the cheapest Hotel in a 10 mile radius. It was clean, comfortable and although basic had everything I needed. The staff were pleasant and polite and i had a good nights sleep. For £50 i couldn't have asked for any more from a budget London hotel.

Booked a room at Tommy Miah's Raj Hotel the day before my 23.01.13 arrival in London. Was in the city to watch the football. The room was rather small but to be fair, exactly what I was expecting so theres no complaints there. There was no noise whatsoever from other rooms / people staying there / or the back of the hotel. The shower was wonderful, check-in was very simple (assisted by a very polite, friendly member of staff whose name escapes me, but she made the process straight-forward). Didn't stay around for the continental breakfast as I had to leave very early due to myself messing up by travel plans, did see it as I left and certainly looked very appetising. Would I stay at Tommy Miah's again? Yes. Without a doubt.

I can judge the basement rooms only. They are worth the bill. The upper rooms are nicer, but more expensive. I wouldn´t choose the basement next time. Breakfast is okay. I missed the english bacon and eggs a little and it wasn´t a indish one I guess. I liked the staff and that´s a major point to me.

Had a five days stay visiting my son. The room I got was after a change fully up to standard. Very good service from the staff. The room was daily well taken care of. Very good communications, buses outside the entrance. If to give a small pice of advise to the manager, the traditional continental breakfast is a bit poor for us scandinavians. I would have appreciated an egg and a pice of cheese. May be better to book by phone rather then over the net. One last thing for light sleepers, try to get Your room facing the backyard. Very good considering the price.

I enjoyed my stay at Tommy Miah's. Lovely clean room and bathroom, nice and warm too. I loved the eastern style drapes. My room was at the back so it was very quiet. The breakfast was self-serve and plentiful, you could take your pick of yogurts, fruit, cereal and toast. The hotel is quite convenient for buses and overground stations and not too far away from underground stations into the centre of London. I was visiting my son who lives nearby and we had a pleasant meal in the restaurant downstairs one night. There is someone on the desk 24 hours so there are no worries of getting back late. I would certainly like to stay there again.

The room was basic but clean, the staff friendly and the continental breakfast adequate. Low key yet warm and friendly. Delicious evening meals in the restaurant. Nice touch with the saris in the rooms. All needs met at a difficult to find price in London. Easily accessible as right on a lot of bus routes. Breakfast basic but can't argue with it at that price. I would definitely stay here again, and recommend it to friends.

Very, very small rooms and the bed have seen better days. But for a budget traveler it is a good choice. The busses to the city center are stopping right outside the door, and if you go up to Newington Green there is a fantastic French bakery in world class! and two really good restaurants, an Italian and a Turkish, that we can recommend.

I spent 3 nights in Tommy's on my business trip and only needed a place to sleep. The deal they had for a budget room was unbeatable, the room is tiny, true, but very clean and convenient! I recommended the place to my colleagues and I'm also looking forward to staying with them on my next trip in December.

I booked a budget room but was upgraded to a double at no extra cost, myself and my daughter and niece enjoyed a top quality Indian meal in the hotel restaurant and i would urge visitors to check this out - the prices were very reasonable and the staff were happy to deviate from the menu. The staff were helpful and courteous throughtout my stay and i would recommend Tommy Miah's as an affordable and enjoyable place to stay.

Excellent value for money, especially as en-suite and breakfast were included. As a lone female, though it was not perfect I felt very contented there for my 5 night stay, and the No 73 and 476 buses take just over half an hour to King's Cross, so it was convenient and better than using the underground, especially as the return bus stops just outside the hotel, so no worries about walking back late at night. The room although small and of budget standard, was clean and pleasantly warm, with all basic needs provided. The only complaint I have about my room was that the toilet was positioned too close to the wall, and so I had to remove the toilet roll holder to be able to sit down. Even then, the arms of the holder dug into my upper arm! Just removing the entire hoder from the wall would help. Another unpleasant thing (although not really the hotel's fault) was that some other guests seemed to be smoking in their rooms, possibly in the bathrooms as this is where the smell accumulated. Perhaps some strongly worded no smoking notices would help? The simple light breakfast was good for me, although the coffee was not very nice. Still - I would not complain at that price as many other hotels charge much more and don't include breakfast at all! The staff were polite but not overly intrusive and the atmosphere of the whole place feels nice, as though the owner actually cares about his business and I preferred it to the large faceless budget chains. A slightly worrying thing was that two payments were simultaneously taken from my Visa card on arrival, and I am not sure how that was possible when I only entered my pin once and received only one receipt for the main transaction. However this was rectified immediately I raised it, and I believe that it was a genuine mistake.

We picked Tommy Miah's hotel primarily due to it's close proximity to our son's flat, but also based on the reviews we had read. We were very pleased we had chosen to stay here - nice room, good and plentiful food and absolutely first class service. The staff were, without exception, helpful, friendly and charming. We are already planning to stay there again.

Me and my family were staying in one of the apartments. It was good and it matched my expectation, but no more than that. The bathroom was clean, and the beds were comfortable. The kitchen though wasn't that clean and the breakfast was poor. The location is good since the bus stop is right outside the hotel - it's easy to get into the city centre. Overall I'm satisfied with my staying and would probably go for it again, according to the price it was really valuable.

We've stayed in the Raj many times, but most recently a 4 day stay, Thur - Mon. As always from the minute we arrived to the minute we left our stay was great. Great service, lovely spacious room, excellent location. The value for money at the Raj is second to none and all of the staff cannot do enough for you, they are much more helfpul and friendlier than many we've found at larger chain hotels. Breakfast is continental and adequate for anyone's needs. The hotel is situated between either Angel or Highbury & Islington tube stations and there are many shops and supermarkets along the Essex Road. We're getting married in Islington in Sept & have guests who've opted to stay here and we know they'll be well looked after!

It was an average accomodation service for London, well communicated by public transport although reaching the tube needed to use the bus first or walk for 20 minutes. As nearly everything in London, a little bit expensive as you pay a real hotel price and you get like a good hostel accomodation service, nothing else!!

I didn't spend much time in the hotel other than to sleep, so can't comment on service. Location was great (for me, near my work and some great cafes). The room was tiny, I was amazed that the door would close. It does have an ensuite, so for those just wanting a bed and some privacy it's fine. The room was very clean and comfortable despite it's size. Summary: Good location, clean, small(!), good value. Would stay there again.

Good location and Price for London. Not great for any extra flourishes but a good basic choice.

I have visited before and enjoyed my stay,my last visit was on the 4th and 5th September 2010,my room was clean with an excellent modern bathroom and I found the staff to be couteous at all times - the breakfast was continental and there was a good variety of food on offer. My daughter and I sampled the restaurant for the first time and both agreed that the food was top class! best Indian food we have sampled for a long time.

“An Excellent 5 days spent in London”

I was in London doing a course and stayed for 5 days. I really wanted to have a bathtub in my room and since the single was gone I opted for the family room. I must say this room was excellent for me and the bathroom was up a few steps and so not intruding on the room as you find in so many hotels. The staff were very helpful and even have a 24 hour taxi office next door. I availed of their services a few times and felt as though I was travelling and staying with family. A truly lovely experience.
Can't wait to go back to Islington. Another participant of the same course as me, stayed in a much more pricier hotel and didn't get clean towels, just goes to show you don't always get what you pay for.

Tommy Miahs Raj Hotel on the Essex Road in Islington is a perfectly good value but decent quality hotel in North London. It's extremely well served by public transport from Angel tube station [which, by the way is on the Northern line not the Victoria line] and is only 5mins away from all the bars/restaurants that area offers. It's also very close to Essex Road train station which takes you straight into the City eg Moorgate. The room was clean, the shower room was perfectly adequate [if a little small] and the bed was fine though the mattress was a tad thin. To be honest, for the cost and taking into consideration it's in a very handy location in London, this is a good value hotel for a short stay.

Tommy Miah's Raj Hotel in Essex Road, Islington is a good value budget hotel. The room was clean, decorated in vibrant reds & complementary cream and was a very pleasant place to stay. The bathroom was small but there again, it was modern and perfectly good. The location is excellent & served by a multitude of buses from Angel tube [which is on the Northern line] & only a few minutes from Essex Road train station which takes you straight into the City.

The hotel was easy to find and very well located to see a gig at Islington Union Chapel, the staff were friendly, the room small but clean and perfectly adequate, and the breakfast, though no cooked option, was good and plentiful - with a range of cereals, bread and lovely croissants, jams, etc, tea and coffee and fruit juice. I would definately stay here again.

The room was simple and clean. It was by far the cheapest hotel near Islington and good value for money, and we enjoyed our stay. Its in a good location and the room has everything you need. The staff were friendly and helpful on reception.

We spent 5 nights at your hotel, nearly one month ago and it was nice. Really very kind people, nice hotel and rooms even though very easy and basic. I loved to have breakfast and watch the street from the big windows.

Islington is a beautiful zone, the buses stop in front of the hotel, easy to reach the centre and pleasant to walk around even in the evening. Many restaurants nearby. If I come to London again, I'll stay for sure at your hotel!
