The George Hotel is in Castletown, the Isle of Man's ancient capital, in the middle of the market square, just a five minute drive from the airport and 1km from the train station. The registered historic building dates back to 1833 and is steeped in history, some of it a little dark, and is situated directly opposite the medieval Castle Rushen.

Rooms

The recently refurbished en-suite bedrooms include 5 King-size bedrooms, 3 Twins and 2 Single rooms. The front bedrooms have superb views of the castle just across the market square.

Restaurant

A choice of lunch and dinner are available daily from the excellent new menu with dishes freshly prepared to order using local produce. The helpful and friendly staff will also advise on daily specials or Children's meals if you require.

Business Facilities

Training and conference meeting room facilities are also available on request at the George Hotel, and there is free Wi-Fi internet throughout.

    This was a short visit on my own to the Isle of Man to do some research, so I was looking for something straightforward and convenient to the airport and south of the island. The George Hotel fitted the bill admirably. Previous reviewers have commented that some of the internal furnishings are 'tired'. This is true for the hallway and stairs which left a lot to be desired, but the bar area had character, the food was good and the service friendly. The bedroom was warm, clean and well appointed with a comfortable bed, a working area and plenty of storage. The shower was excellent.. The TV was a bit dated but perfectly alright for the limited number of channels available. Parking was easy at the rear of the hotel. I would not hesitate to return here for a similar visit.

    A pleasant stay for a family reunion in ther Isle of Man. One of the largest hotel bedrooms I have used. Very convenienlty situated for an easy walk round Castletown and the buses every 20 minutes to Douglas and the airport.

    On our first visit a month ago we were staying at the Sefton, the so called best Hotel of the island. In the afternoon we ate at Hotel George and decieded to stay there on our next trip, that was last weekend. So our expectation was only high regarding the food. The room and facilities, as the friendlyness were a nice suprise. We will defenetly return and will also recommend this place, espacially to the parents related to King Williams College.     The people at the George could not have been more helpful, Unfortunately we had to leave early as the problem with my hips and knee were keeping me awake at night. With no lift I had to climb the stairs which prooved to much for me

    Very good size room with comfortable bed and good shower. The bar was friendly - and you could feel comfortable eating there even if travelling alone. On my first night there was (by chance) a talk organised by the local motorboat and sailing club in the back room, which I attended and found a very interesting insight into the island.

    The staff at the George Hotel were always extremely helpful and very pleasant. While I found the bedroom and main hallways and stairs very tired looking (particularly the carpet on the stairs) the room was clean. It would be helpful to have telephone extension in the rooms. The bathroom was clean and had been renovated recently, with a good shower. Breakfast while not included in the room rate was exceptional and I stuck to scrambled eggs and beautiful smoked salmon every morning.

    Overall we had a very enjoyable stay, the rooms were clean and well serviced, if i was to be a little picky I would say the furnishings could do with an upgrade as looking a little tired, however the friendly staff, great location and tasty food made a positive impression and would not hesitate to book this hotel again.

    Unique hotel. Had the main front room with balcony overlooking the Market Place and castle - best view in town. Very reasonable price - but fair; if the furnishings had been more upmarket it would have cost three times what we paid. Felt like a nice place, happy staff and customers. Doing great business in the bar.

    It was fine for what I wanted, a convenient stay in Castletown, near the airport, before my flight the next day with an easy wander around the town on the Sunday morning. I had a room at the back of the hotel, so I didn't hear any Saturday night noise. The staff were all very helpful and it was good to see that the new managers now give people breakfast in the main bar, overlooking the square, rather than in the back room - much more pleasant than before.

    I was happy with my stay at The George. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and there are plans to upgrade the accommodation which is adequate but a little tired in places. My room had a newly-fitted en-suite but other aspects of the room were ready for refurbishment. It was good to find plenty of space and a desk to work at in a single room. Food had improved since my stay seven years ago, with a broad menu now available for longer hours. Free wi-fi was also a bonus and it was very reasonably priced.

    A warm and friendly welcome in the centre of Castletown across from the castle, the single room was clean and fresh, a good size for single accomodation with en-suite. Breakfast was a hearty feast, cooked to order. Excellent dinner menu available covering all food tastes. Useful private car parking at rear of hotel.
