Madeira is an archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, not far from Portugal, and a member of the European Union. Madeira consists of two inhabited islands, Madeira and Porto Santo, and two uninhabited island groups called Desertas and Selvagens Islands. The largest cities and towns in Madeira are Funchal, Santa Cruz, Santana, Machico and Calheta.

The climate in Madeira is mild throughout the year, which makes it a perfect destination for your holidays.

Tourist attractions you should not miss in Madeira are the Cabo Girão cliff, the São Vicente Caves, the Levadas and the botanical garden in Funchal (Jardim Botânico).

Popular holiday activities on the Madeira Islands include hiking, golfing (e.g. at Santo da Serra Golf, Palheiro Golf or Porto Santo Golf) and horse riding. Due to its location and climate, Madeira is also the perfect place for water activities, such as fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving and surfing.

Madeira International Airport (FNC) has regular flights to and from Madeira. Cruise ships also dock at Madeira and there is a ferry to Portimão (Algarve) once a week. Madeira has an extensive bus system across the island.
