Great Fosters Hotel, Egham

Gracing an estate of more than fifty acres in what was once the heart of Royal Windsor Forest in Surrey, Great Fosters is the most distinguished of hotels – a Grade One listed building blessed with the grandeur of 16th century England and luxurious modern facilities. Immaculately preserved, this stately historic monument also boasts a highly sought-after location, being near Heathrow airport, the M25 and M4, and also near Windsor, Wentworth and many of London’s leading attractions.

Since it first opened its doors as a hotel in 1930, this magnificent residence has played host to royalty, film stars, emperors and literary icons. Today, welcoming guests for luxury short breaks, private dinners, meetings and celebrations, and acclaimed as a romantic wedding venue, Great Fosters remains one of England’s most celebrated historic hotels.

Bedrooms

All the suites and bedrooms at Great Fosters are individually decorated, some with four-poster beds, Persian rugs, gilt furnishings and damask walls, many with tapestries, antiques and artefacts dating back hundreds of years. Guests are accommodated in three separate buildings. The Main House, which dates from 1550, offers a choice of historic suites and bedrooms. The Cloisters, which is reached a cross a courtyard, offers contemporary suites and double rooms which were refurbished in May 2001. In addition The Coach House provides more basic accommodation in a choice of double and single rooms.

Restaurant

Specialising in modern English cuisine using the finest ingredients, Great Fosters offers an inspired menu of gourmet food. The hotel is equally popular with our resident guests as well as those seeking a top restaurant and unique evenings out within the Wentworth, Windsor, Hampton Court and Heathrow area.

Guests can relax with pre-dinner drinks in the Cocktail Bar overlooking the Japanese bridge, beside the open fireplace in the Main Hall, or on the Terrace in fine weather. An impressive selection of vintage wines is also available to accompany the fine dining.

Christopher Basten is the new Chef de Cuisine at Great Fosters. He joined the hotel in October 2005 after an illustrious career to date in some of the best and busiest kitchens in the country. Christopher has learnt from and worked with some of the giants of modern cooking in Britain such as Raymond Blanc and John Burton Race. Since his arrival at the hotel, he has been creating new menus that reflect his style of cooking. As well as sourcing the best ingredients from local suppliers. Christopher is a strong believer in the “traceability” of the produce he uses and thrives on seasonal changes and the variety of produce they bring.

Weddings

Great Fosters is a fine example of Elizabethan architecture; set amongst stunning formal gardens, the hotel makes an ideal venue for a wedding reception. This grand building became a hotel in the 1930s and has been sympathetically converted by the Sutcliffe Family who are still its current custodians. Great Fosters possesses a plethora of original details and features and is designated as a Scheduled Historic Monument and Grade One listed building.

Tempting menus are combined with vintage wines to ensure that your wedding breakfast is a gourmet experience, while the hotel’s romantic gardens – with a Japanese bridge, fountain and Saxon moat – provide an idyllic backdrop for photography. Following the celebrations, Great Fosters can offer your wedding party luxurious accommodation in our many suites and rooms. Our professional staff will be delighted to advise you and can help you plan and organise an unforgettable day.

Great Fosters is a rare experience – a luxury hotel that combines genuine historical acclaim with a gracious setting, modern amenities and distinguished service.
